Stay Flexible in the Face of Change
Taking improv off the stage and into the workplace
Applied improv combines training and team building by applying the fundamental principles of improvised theater to the world outside the stage.
Improvisers combine listening, “yes and” & immediacy to create stories and characters. These skills are a fun and effective means to instill your staff with the 4 C’s: Connection, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity.
Applied improv will keep your team nimble and confident in the face of change.
Workshops range from simple icebreaking focused on fun & relationship building to an emphasis on one or more of the 4 C’s to custom made curricula for your unique work culture.
Listen (Stay Present)
Onstage the most important person in the world is your scene partner. By embracing full body listening, improv drills and games give us practical lessons on staying “in the moment.”
Yes (Acceptance)
“Yes, And” is the central concept of improv. Yes means you practice radical acceptance of your scene partner’s ideas and actions and they return the favor. You don’t have to agree about everything, but you meet the other where they are.
And (Take Responsibility)
And is about taking responsibility. For a scene to progress, all the performers must contribute. It is as selfish to keep your ideas to yourself as it is to talk over others, leaving no room for their contributions.
Immediacy (Authenticity)
Have you ever asked a question and by the time the person said, “Sure” their silence had already screamed, “No”? Our authentic thoughts come through in our tones & bodies, regardless of the words we choose. Immediacy teaches how to silence their inner critic and give the trust building respect of honesty.
